CNA Classes in Connecticut

The procedure of becoming a Certified Nursing Assitant (CNA) in Connecticut is regulated by the Department of Health in this state.

The procedure includes a training course and exam.

Keep reading to find out more useful information on CNA.

Training Requirements

Connecticut residents must complete one of the official training programs.

The list of appropriate, state-approved programs is available on the Connecticut Department of Health website.

Nurses who have completed the programs in other states can be eligible to take the final exam in Connecticut.

However, the primary requirement is that a program lasted for a minimum of 100 hours.

On the other hand, RNs, LPNs, and nursing students who completed at least 100 hours of clinical training and theoretical education are also eligible to take the test without attending the official course.

After the course is done, you have a deadline of two years to finish the exam.

Final Test

The final test for CNAs in Connecticut is the Nurse Aide Competency Exam.

The test has two parts – practical skills evaluation and the theory check.

You can choose to take the theory test in a written or an oral form.

The test is available only in the English language.

The skills test include interaction with actors pretending to be patients, so you will have to perform primary nursing assistant duties.

It is convenient for candidates in Connecticut to choose the preferred testing location across the state.

The website of the Department of Health offers learning materials including sample tests.

Candidates who fail are allowed to take the exam three times.

If you fail one part of the test, you can choose to retake only that part.

The test fee in Connecticut is either $110 or $120.

The price depends on the knowledge test, an oral test is $10 more expensive.

Retaking skills test is $65, a written knowledge test is $45 while the oral test will cost you $55.

Application Process

Before you apply for the test, make sure that you meet all the requirements.

All useful information about the application process is available on the Prometric website.

You can apply online, or send the documentation via email or fax, whatever is more convenient for you.

Candidates are asked to submit the documentation, and the list of required documents depends on your eligibility route.

For example, some nurses will be asked to provide copies of certificates, while LPN and RN must submit copies of school transcripts.
