What Does the Board Do?

Nurses receive their licenses or disciplinary actions through the Board.

These actions can now be seen online, at the website link we’ll present later.

  • Ensure you meet the Board’s expectations for licensure
  • Sign up with Pearson Vue

Pearson Vue will charge $200 upon signing up for this exam.

Renewing Your License

Nurses must renew their licenses.

The deadline is the end of February, but individuals can send in their renewal requests until April 29th and not pay any fee.

Those who send their renewal applications after April 30th will have to pay a $100 late renewal penalty fee.

There are some requirements to adhere to for renewal:

  • Holders of DEA registration must attend 2 hours of continuing education for pain management, opioid use, and addiction.
  • The current certification has to be sent to the Board’s Division by the certifying body.
  • Showing proof of working at least 320 hours in the previous 2 years.

Registered nurses have to also send in cards with their fingerprints.

How To Do A License Lookup

The website of the Alaska Board of Nursing is a bit different compared to the sites of the Boards in other states.

If you access www.commerce.alaska.gov/cbp/main/, you have the option to look up licenses for many fields.

You’ll need to access the link for professional licenses, and on the new page you’ll have to provide this information:

  • Number of the current license
  • The program
  • The license type
  • The DBA
  • The name of the ower
  • City

The DBA can either start with or contain whatever you type in, and you must choose the option that applies.

The name of the owner is their last name or the name of the company, based on the case.

For this, you still have to indicate whether the name starts with or contains the word or words you typed.
